Gearing up for the big ride!
I have already picked up my registration packet (number #440 this year, watch for me if you're out on the route!), I have been doing 10/20/50 mile rides and those are going quite well this year. The next things were to make sure I'm all set with all the OTHER stuff for the ride itself.
I was going to replace my saddle again this year, but I think I'm going to be just fine with that one. I've figured out a great solution to my seat post sliding issue and it was worked great ever since implementation. I've got my jerseys, my shorts, socks, helmet, gloves, sunglasses, water bottles and cages, and cell phone holder. I just need to get a few more things.
Last year, I'm pretty sure I only survived thanks to those awesome Clif Shot Bloks. I had them again this year on my 50 and I can feel the energy difference when I have them. So, I need a few of those for Saturday and Sunday.
The other thing I needed was shoes. Last year I wore a pair of Under Armor running shoes. Now, I'm not saying these are bad shoes. Not at all. But they are for running, not biking. Everyone I've talked to at the ride last year said "you need biking shoes." "Your ride will go so much better with biking shoes." "You're losing a lot of power not having biking shoes."
Well, I looked at biking shoes, and new pedals, and clips. I didn't have the money for them. $100 shoes, $100 pedals and clips. It was money I just didn't have. Even after finding a pair of shoes on Amazon that came with the pedals and clips for $75, I didn't have the money.
But, someone (in-laws) generously bought them for me and I will have them on the ride this year. I should have them tomorrow and get to test it all out this weekend! I know that's short order to go and break in a new pair of shoes. But even showing my biking friends what is coming, they said I will be MUCH better off this year than last.
I can't wait. I'm getting pretty excited. I want to conquer the ride again. I've already gone over last year's total, but we haven't conquered the goal... yet. Let's do this. Links to donate are down below!
